1) Federal and State taxes on gas. Why is gasoline $1 per gallon cheaper in NJ then California? Taxes.
2) The US has UNleaded Gas and most of the world still has Leaded Gasoline. Taking the lead out costs money.
3)China is a regulated economy and the government sets the price. To do this in some cases the Gov will Subsidize the price. Why is oil price increasing at a faster pace in US than India and China?
Mainly because the price is cheap compared to similar economies: uk 8 $ for ex.
America ignored the railway for centuries while european expanded their train network all over europe, and train is even cheaper that the plane.
I was surprised to know that i can't fly from Paris to Brussels ,the connection was purely and simply removed.
The train (TGV) took over, because it is faster, cheaper and get you in the heart of the city
If america continue to develop roads, highways and airport, the price of gas and kerosene will continue to increase.
So there's more than one answer to the problem,in my opinion the solution and the future of america is the high speed train (like TGV).Why is oil price increasing at a faster pace in US than India and China?
Because we have a free econmy and oil price is determined by supply and demand.
While in China, oil price is controlled by the government, which subsidied their petrol industry.
As to India, the country does not have a modern highway %26amp; road structure and there are not too many cars in that country so oil has never been a big problem there.
Will you accept an unbiased answer?
This was from today in fact and should help to answer this question...

AIADA's FirstUp: The (Real) Reason Behind High Oil Prices
The (Real) Reason Behind High Oil Prices
On May 13, the price of a barrel of oil briefly hit a record of $126.98 on the New York Mercantile Exchange. The reason was ostensibly that Iran was cutting oil production. But there is no gas shortage. In fact, in the U.S., stockpiles of oil climbed by 11.9 million barrels in April; they were up by nearly 33 million barrels since Jan. 1. At the same time, MasterCard's May 7 gasoline report showed that gas demand has fallen by 5.8%. So why are prices still going up? Ed Wallace, writing in BusinessWeek, says prices are rising due to an unregulated commodities markets and greed. Commodities have often been the refuge for investors who have lost money on equities or fixed-income investments. If not restrained, they can drive up the price of goods that we can't get out of buying. In the press we are bombarded daily with justifications for the high price of oil, such as strife in the Nigerian oil patch. However, the Senate took a dim view of those excuses, saying that manipulative hedge fund managers are ';making bold predictions of shocking price advancements to come'; and adding ';more fuel to the bullish fire in a sort of self-fulfilling prophecy.';
The price of Gas in the U.S. is higher because of demand, when demand goes up so does price.
When demand is low, the price is low... This is why the U.S. must come up with ideals to halt the demand for oil..
Because the US has had it so cheap for so long now it's citizens have to live in the real world because there are other countries able to buy fuel in the quantities that before only the US could afford..
1) Greedy speculation in Chicago commodities market (where crude oil was traded daily)
2) Refinery is not enough
3) War in the middle east
Its supply and demand. demand has gone DOWN, so the oil companies arbitrarily raise the price...thats how capitalism works in a corrupt system works
Because the value of the U.S. dollar is decreasing relative to the currencies of India and China.
Because China and India are developing at a rapid pace and their currencies are trading higher. The U.S. dollar is dropping for the time being on world currency markets hence they can buy more product for less money.
More cars
Higher consumption
Dependence on mid-east oil
Difficulty in shifting over to greener alternatives
US uses alot of oil. They have their own transportation more. They travel alot.
