Why are the Americans complaining so much about oil price?

why are the Americans complaining about a $4 gallon when here in the UK we are nearly paying $11 dollars per gallon nearly 3 times what they are paying for a gallon. i just cant understand thatWhy are the Americans complaining so much about oil price?
Countries in the EU (and the UK) were built up- America was built out. People here commute to everything- even when they live in a metropolitan area they commute. Commuting cross the metro area where I live is easily 40 miles from edge to edge. Other people live in the rural areas and have to commute to more populated areas. Why are the Americans complaining so much about oil price?
If gas were $11.00 per gallon; and we had the true option of not driving a gasoline fueled vehicle - we could perhaps feel differently. But here in the USA, there are many counties with no public transportation systems at all. Only in the largest cities, is it even a conceivable option to get to work, buy groceries, etc. without private transportation.

When the increase in gasoline prices have come so rapidly, and they cut into the ability of working persons to also buy food and health care, which have also risen exorbitantly, it is cause for many people to complain.
You should consider the sheer size of the USA, compared to the size of Britain, lets say you live in London and your relatives live in Birmingham, you have to travel 100 miles to see them. Now stretch that out to USA proportions. Thats why they are annoyed. But they have brought the oil problem upon themselves and now they are going on about it. TOUGH!

China loves oil, maybe Americans should realise that.
The price per gallon of gas is basically the same in both countries close to $4 a gallon- the difference is in the taxes that are put on the gas by each country. The British get a large amount of the money to run their nation off the gas tax, we get ours from an income tax, sales tax, capitol gains tax, inheritance tax, a tax on interest earned etc. We Americans are the most highly taxed nation on earth- You Brits have one of the highest taxes on gas on this earth. Do you understand it a bit better now?
Because we are used to paying a lot less. We also have to use a lot more oil then the UK. Europe and the rest of the world in general have trains and buses. While this is true for the US as well it is more difficult. Our country is built in a way that makes it so that owning a car is practically manditory. We need more oil so for us it's really more expensive.
A better question is why isn't the UK complaining three times more? We need the oil to run our cars so we can get to work, go to the store and the doctor etc... We don't have the transit systems that you have in the UK. I also believe since your country is so much smaller many people can walk or take the bus to work where I live I have to travel 40 miles to work. The travel distances are just farther here.
Let me think.......because we've been paying WAY lower prices in the past as compared to now.

Yes, your prices are rediculous over there for oil, but they always have been.

Our prices were always relatively low and quite affordable......hence all the SUV's you would see driving around in the U.S.

Fuel used to be something you really never had to budget for here, but now it's just the opposite, and it's driving the costs of EVERYTHING up because of it.
Because you're suckers, plain and simple.

We are the most powerful nation on the planet, so why should we pay the same that your nation pays? We have the ability and power to get a product for less. But the our government is not doing its job and the anti-war protestors are destroying our economy.
Why are british complaining so much about Americans?.

Seriously, is life that boring over there?. If we want to complain about gas prices, that's our business. Mind what's going on your side of the pond and let us worry about ours.

M'kay?.
Its simple. When you are used to paying a low to moderate price for anything and it suddenly doubles or triple, you bet upset and complain. I believe it is the same in the UK.
They are complaining about the 360% inflation on fuel prices.
Because that is 300% more than what we were paying a couple of years ago. Why are the people in the UK not complaining about $11/gallon?
You people drive on the wrong side of the road so gas cost you more.
