Why do people freak out when the price of oil lowers?

When the price of oil lowers, people freak out saying the economys **** and then when the prices go up, they freak out about raising gas prices. It makes no sense, please explain this to meWhy do people freak out when the price of oil lowers?
If the oil, or other comodity prices fall too fast and too low, it shows that the country (world) is not just in recession, but could be facing a depression.


We've had many minor recessions in the world over the last few decadess, but the last depression was in the 1930's.


The outcome was devastating worldwide. Billions of people were thrown into poverty. In Europe it resulted in the second world war.





The mere thought of depression sends negative signals throughout the globe. Optimism falls to an all time low, the financial markets fall into decline. Investment stops.

Do you understand now, why so many Governments are pumping trillions of dollars into the system, trying to ';bump start '; the flagging motor ?





The last time depression reaked havock in the world, all the institutions ';closed up'; holding onto what they have. Governments isolated their countries to try to protect them. The result acted like a catalyser and multiplied the problem many times over, making it far, far worse. The world learned from these huge mistakes.





This time around they have opened up more, reducing interest rates to encourage the flow of money. Hopefully this time, the outcome will be not so painful.


Much more cash will need to be injected to speed up recovery.
