What did the USA do (like other countries as well) after the first ';oil price shock'; to become more independent from the OPEC oil? What did the USA do (like other countries as well) after the first ';oil price shock'; to become more independen
The USA did nothing to decrease our dependence on foreign oil. That is why we still are far to heavily reliant on oil from other countries. US oil companies will look for oil where ever they can find it. The problem is that there is not enough domestic production and nowhere left to look with the potential for significant discoveries in the US...unless you count the Alaskan Natural Wilderness Reserve (ANWR). Many people in the US are opposed to exploration in the ANWR so we must continue to import oil until an alternative is found.
The government does not have an agency that is dedicated to developing alternative energy sources. That is left to private enterprise in this country. Perhaps we need an agency like NASA that is government funded and whose one purpose is to research and develop alternative sources of energy. What did the USA do (like other countries as well) after the first ';oil price shock'; to become more independen
invest in oil, and tripled their stock values. oops! you meant the country, and not just those who run it. Ah? well, the countries increase the taxes on gas, more oil revenue...
Too become more independent? who the hell would want to do that? who would cut off their own legs when they are making so much money and revenue? but just to appease the voters I guessed they claimed to be ';Looking'; into alternatives. mind you, they been ';looking'; for ages now.
Maybe when it runs out, then they'll do something. after all, they need to make money somehow, if not oil, then a oil substitute they can monopolize and gouge consumers.
