Now the cost of goods have risen because of the cost of manufacturing fuel, delivery fuel, etc. Most business use the 35% mark up on commodities. The rise in price can be far more than the actual coast. As long as ppl believe that the rise is justified, you will pay. The increase in profit (or margin) makes stocks go up as reported earnings and profits go up.





There is also the idea that the cost of importation is too high. Why pay double for Imported items when domestic goods are just as durable?





For discount retailers like Walmart, hard times means more business as ppl by the cheaper stuff rather than brand names. Example: Vassarette bra and panties are made exactly the same, by the same manufacturer as Victoria's Secret.
