This question has gone a week without an answer. It sounds like you have called your local providers and found the cheapest price. For price comparison information on the web, do a Yahoo search for ';fuel oil prices'; (include the quotation marks). You will get 51,100 results. There are several sites on the first couple of pages of results that compare pricing. If you do the search and spend a little time exploring, you will quickly find the information you seek.

Good luck with your search for information.

Why is it that gas prices at the pump always go up with the price of oil, but not down?

When the price of oil goes down, the price of gas does not, but when the price of oil goes up, the price at the pump always does too. Seems pretty suspicious to me.Why is it that gas prices at the pump always go up with the price of oil, but not down?
How many gas companies are there in this country? How many big companies can get in and run this market in the way they want?

When you are at the top and others depend on you, how do you feel and what do you want?

Unless you believe that you now have more power to protect others or unless you assure that you are the same you, then you might know why the price of gas keeps going up and doesn't go down considerably. Why is it that gas prices at the pump always go up with the price of oil, but not down?
Why would the gas companies lower prices? They are there to make a profit, and right now they are making a pretty hefty profit. Lowering it, while being the more reasonable thing to do, would also mean smaller profit margins, and that just isn't going to happen. Think who's in power right now. They have made their fortunes in the oil business. Prices are not going to lower anytime soon. Anyways, we are at peak oil production now, or a few years ago. We are producing less oil, and oil production world wide is dropping. Oil prices are probably going to skyrocket within a few years.
Why would they want to bring prices down. We the American people have become so dependant on their product that they can do whatever they want with the prices and we've already proven that we won't do a damn thing to stop them. Watch the prices of crude and what happens to the prices at the pump. The prices will go up at the pump the second crude prices go up, even thought there is no way in hell that the gas we're buying was purchased at the new higher price. Things that make you go......hmmmmm. Ever see an oil exec driving a cavalier? Hell no, they don't even drive. They can afford to pay those outrageous prices to fill up their gas guzzling lincoln limos and pay a driver to take them out for coffee and we're footin' the bill. The only thing that is going to stop them is going to be a nationwide effort to show them that we can hurt them until they back off the billions that they gouge from us every day. I makes me sooooooooooooo mad that this country was built on and is supported on the backs of the working man/woman and it's the sleezy oil barons that probably haven't done an honest days work in their lives that are not only profiting but keeping us down in the process. The short answer to your question is plain and simple.......................... G R E E D. The oil companies see an opportunity to gouge us once more and took it and they'll never look back. As long as they're getting fat that's all that matters.
cause da gov. is an a*** hole

  • Is it a good thing that the price of oil is so low?

Should we celebrate? Does this mean the economy is really bad? Why aren't cars lined up at the gas station? Why doesn't anyone else seem super happy about it? I am.

Is it a good thing that the price of oil is so low?
A lot of people are now out of work due to layoffs, so fewer people are driving to cut costs. Vehicle fuel is a supply and demand commodity. Although oil is used in other products, such as plastics and lubricants that are recycleable, oil used as automotive fuel is non-recoverable. Gasoline is not one of those things that does not stores very well, so it must be sold fairly quickly. Sell, re-fill, make more, dig more - that's the cycle. Supply and demand. Demand goes down, supply goes up, price goes down. It cycles up and downIs it a good thing that the price of oil is so low?
It is not low believe me.

Petrol used to be the equivalent of 6 gallons for 拢1 sterling, so don't be conned by any government bulshine they and the Oil producers are ripping every one of Beyond belief.
the good thing is that its easy on your pockets and the bad thing is that this encourages people to spend more on oil and the carbon emissions increase, btw people dont have money now to spend more on oil
Didn't realise that the price of oil was low all I know is that we are paying a lot more now for a litre than we paid for a gallon at one stage of the game.
I think what has happened here in the US is people are just flat broke and aint buying the stuff like they were. It is really a sign the economy is shot when Americans dont travel....although it is a relief for me at the pump!!
Doesn't it mean the lower the price of oil, the lower gas is?
I'm happy. But years of experience tells me that it's only temporary and I wish I had a large storage tank so I could buy a BUNCH of it.
yes unless it was cheaper. And actually yes since the economy is bad less and less people can afford gas
For me it's a good thing.
would u prefer it was dearer?

Where are all the super tankers carrying all the oil know that the price oil gone down?

the reason i asked did you know that when tankers load oil they could start the journey to say UK and time they get to there destination they could been diverted to another county a few times because some one has put in a higher bid for that load of oil Where are all the super tankers carrying all the oil know that the price oil gone down?
Did you know oil is resold 50 times before reaching the petrol pumps in uk , they have various agents and transactions throughout the journey to ensure the right price is maintained.Where are all the super tankers carrying all the oil know that the price oil gone down?
The bid for that oil has been accepted before the tanker is loaded, once the tanker is on its way there is no more bidding, the tanker knows exactly where its going to offload its cargo. The tanker does not own the oil it ships, just like a truck driver does not own his cargo. Instead they just get paid for shipping the oil, just like the truck driver gets paid for shipping his cargo.
Think bout it why did almost everyone get a rebate check..... The whole ideal was to spike prices up and when everyone is down send them a rebate check to butter them up like nothing happen. Now that gas is gone down where is most of that money.... in some1s pocket...
a tanker may be rerouted or just sit there while they figure out who's the highest bidder. or they may just stockpile the stuff. they can do whatever they want with their oil but they are running businesses and cash flow is a consideration
    Yeah. Sure.

Tankers also have unlimited supplies of fuel and the ship hands also decide to pass on their time off and flights back home because of this.

    Stop thinking too hard.
    It's all about the money!

I thought the reason the price of oil came down recently is because we are in a seasonal downward price trend?

There are a lot of solid economic and practical reasons that opening up more drilling offshore and in protected areas will not lower gas prices. This is a well-understood issue. Why is there a persistent psychology showing up in the polls that people still think that drilling more will lower gas prices?I thought the reason the price of oil came down recently is because we are in a seasonal downward price trend?
We are not yet over with summer (seasonal) yet the price of oil drop recently. We are however in a downward economic growth trend. Low growth rate spooked oil speculators, investors, hoarders etc that an all out recession will translate to lower gas consumption. Global recession or slow growth rate will stabilize gas consumption.

People are just addicted to oil hence when the idea about drilling more oil would solve the problem eveerybody just went gung ho about it. Can't blame them, its an easy short-term solution for a far more complex situation. But definitely, drilling more oil didn't push the oil price down, its just that everybody had cut down their gas consumption.I thought the reason the price of oil came down recently is because we are in a seasonal downward price trend?
What happens if we do not drill? The amount of oil we use won't decrease markedly over time. So we have to get the oil from somewhere or there will be a shortage and prices will go up. If we get it from foreign sources, we are held hostage to their whims as well as to global markets. If we get if from domestic sources, we at least have control and the prices will be more controlled as well.

If we had started drilling ten years ago off shore or in ANWR, the oil would be accessible now and the recent price spikes due to speculation and global demand may not have been as great. If we don't drill now, ten years from now we will be held even more hostage to global forces and speculation.

Bottom line: drilling now will probably not affect prices although it may affect speculation, which is a good thing in itself. But ten years from now it will definitely affect prices since they will definitely be higher if we don't drill.
We cannot drill our way to lower oil prices. Last I checked, oil extraction and refinement isn't a government program, so this crude will be developed by for-profit ventures and brought to the world market, not just US consumption. The US Department of Energy says the TOTAL proven crude reserve of US offshore and protected represents less than 8 months of current world consumption. The DOE also estimates it'll take 20 years to extract this oil at current rates. So in the final analysis, in the course of one generation, this oil will reduce prices at the pump by maybe a fraction of a cent or so for a short period of time.
It doesn't matter, oil is on it's way out. 10 years, 20 years, whatever. GM is about to roll the Volt, T.Boone Pickens is building the largest wind farm in the world and plans to switch cars to run on Nat Gas.

The less oil there is the better.

Why does the price of oil increase if some expert says it MIGHT increase?

The experts need to keep their mouths shut. Maybe they stand to gain from making dumb statements like ';Oil is going to increase by $30.00 per barrel since Dictator Y scratched his nose.'; These guys are beginning to frustrate me. Xanthippe and I are having trouble feeding the kinds. Why does the price of oil increase if some expert says it MIGHT increase?
just remember, that for every speculator that stands to make money on the run up in oil, others will lose when the speculative margin falls off, which it will probably do, when people find out just how fast the free market will respond to America's objection to $5 a gallon gas.

electric cars are just around the corner. Every home in america will have an electric or hybrid, depending on how far you have to drive every day. they will also have a traditional long range fueled vehicle, either gasoline or hydrogen or hybrid. car companies will rebound as it will become chic in all quarters to travel the farthest for the least cost. kind of like how people used to talk a lot about what route you took to get to the party. Why does the price of oil increase if some expert says it MIGHT increase?
These experts don't necessarily drive the price. They are market analysts. They take information from the markets and from what is going on in the world in general and try to estimate how the market will react. They are basically trying to predict the future. I doubt that they have much to gain, but they can lose their credibility if their predictions are wrong.

All that said, analysts could possibly drive the price by causing panic or apathy. It really depends on how most consumers interpret these predictions.
Perhaps the experts were right, that the market conditions predicted the increase in prices, the expert was merely the messenger.

There are a lot of people who know what the trends in supply and demand are. Experts do not invent those numbers. But they could revert to telling only the suppliers of their conclusions, and leave us in the dark. There is a value to that, in that consumers will not then go out and fill the tank because there may be a little shortage.

However, if shortage is the norm, people will get into the habit of filling up, maintaining the full tank.

Prices are not going up because of experts saying they will, even though on a sequence of events basis we might assume that to be the case. Rather, the conditions that cause prices to rise are evident before the price rises.

Somebody was sure to spill the beans, whether it be an expert or otherwise.
Oil companies are making record profits.

if you look at the oil companies as a different publicly traded company, say 'GMC, or Ford'; they are doing exactly what they are supposed to be doing. It is a free market and is going to go up and down with speculation.

If we want the price of gas to go down, it is simple fix. As a whole americans need to change their lifestyles and not drive as much and not buy as much oil. then the price will go down.

The demand for it is making it go up.
Forecasters are like weather people. They don't have to be right to stay employed. Most often the media must thrive and media does not thrive unless things are going sour.

Should I fill up my gas tank now since the price of oil dropped today?

Or do you think its gonna keep lowering and I should wait a few days? I still got about half tank full.Should I fill up my gas tank now since the price of oil dropped today?
i would wait a couple days... actually i did. on Wednesday gas was 3.52 where I'm at, thursday i decided to wait even though it went to 3.49, then friday i ran on fumes and got gas for what was advertised at 3.479, but was actually 3.459. I filled up and should be good for about 2 weeks because i don't drive much. I figure its only changing a couple cents a day, i would wait it out until you are almost empty or the first day you see it start to go up then fill up.Should I fill up my gas tank now since the price of oil dropped today?
fill it up half way, and if the cost drops more tomorrow, fill it up all the way. If it goes up, at least you have some gas to last you for a week or so until it drops again.

I filled mine up yesterday with $45 when it usually takes me almost $60. So fill up while it's cheap. Because in todays time, there is no telling what it will do tomorrow.
I would fill up today as in this day and age the price could go back up in a few hours
You can, but oil will drop even more.
